To vault on the back of a horse is to borrow freedom.

Our Mission

Creating a better world—one child at a time—through the equestrian arts.

"Equestrian art, perhaps more than any other, is closely related to the wisdom of life. Many of the same principles may be applied as a line of conduct to follow. The horse teaches us self-control, constancy, and the ability to understand what goes on in the mind and the feelings of another creature, qualities that are important throughout our lives. Moreover, from this relationship with his horse the rider will learn that only kindness and mutual understanding will bring about achievements of highest perfection."
—Colonel Alois Podhajsky
Former Director of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna

The Benefits of Vaulting—Friendship, Fun, and Challenges

Vaulting is a sport that positively impacts children on many levels.

In today's world of technology and urbanization, vaulting offers children who might not otherwise have access to horses the opportunity to participate in the equestrian arts. Interaction with their most important team member, the vaulting horse, helps vaulters develop skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. Often just the feeling of being on horseback is enough to promote a child's inner-growth process.

Vaulting improves agility, strength, power, co-ordination, flexibility, and the riders' seat while enhancing safety. This hybrid sport offers children an opportunity to be part of a team, which improves self confidence and builds character; to use their creativity and imagination by interpreting music to compulsory moves and freestyle competition moves; and most importantly--friendships, fun, and challenges.

Vaulting is also a sport that can be integrated, valuing input from special needs vaulters (An outstanding example of an integrated team is Valley View Vaulters).

Finally, it provides children with an opportunity for team travel to regional, national, and international clinics and Olympic-caliber competitions like the World Equestrian Games.

With all of the benefits of vaulting, at Free Spirit Vaulters, we feel privileged to state that our mission is clear: We're creating a better world--one child at a time--through the equestrian arts.
