The
Twenty-Meter Circle:
A Place for Vaulters
Our vaulters have an
opportunity to participate in a wide
variety of events. If you're interested
in seeing what's coming up, check out
our events
calendar.
We'll be holding several
summer camp sessions in 2005. And because
we had many inquiries from out of state
about last year's camp, this year we'll
have accomodations for out-of-state vaulters.
Adult vaulters are welcome! Check
out our 2005 Summer Camp.
Here's what we've been
up to—
AVA
REGION IX COACH AND VAULTER CLINIC
WITH CHRISTOPH LENSING
October 29-31, 2004 - Golden,
Colorado
Christoph Lensing is one
of the most medalled male vaulters in the
world, and recently some of our vaulters
were very fortunate to attend a three-day
clinic
in Golden, Colorado with him. Immediately upon returning
from the clinic, we began incorporating
what we'd learned from Christoph into
our practice sessions. These cold, New
Mexico winter months will be spent preparing
for both the AVA Region IV Competition
and the AVA National Championship in
Denver this summer!
Ulrike Reider
Clinic, October 5, 2004
Santa Fe, New Mexico
We
hosted a day-long clinic for vaulters
with FEI judge Ulrike
Rieder (Germany). Ulrike has judged
many World Championship Vaulting competitions
around the world and is the author
of several vaulting books, including Correct
Vaulting, the guidebook for AVA
vaulters and most vaulters around the
globe.
This was a unique opportunity
for our vaulters to be exposed firsthand
to the international vaulting standard.
Much of what we learned at this clinic
will serve as the foundation for our
work over the winter. Ulrike also taught
us a lot of fun warmup games to practice
with our vaulting horse.
Thank you for the wonderful
clinic, Ulrike! We all appreciate your
technical knowledge, disciplined approach,
patience, enthusiasm, sense of fun, and
contagious laughter! We hope to see you
in Santa Fe again.

out some of our photographs from the
clinic.)
AVA
Region IV Fall Fest, October 2-3 2004
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Our team attended this
year's Fall Fest in Albuquerque. Our vaulters
in the Walk Division did very well, with
Bryn Saddler winning Best Overall. Conner
Andersen won 1st Overall in the Copper Division. Here are the overall results.
We were very lucky
to have Ulrike
Rieder (FEI judge and author of Correct
Vaulting) as the judge. A native
of Germany, Ulrike has judged many World
Championship Vaulting Competitions.
There were costume
classes with some very creative performances
and costume designs. The Balloon Fiesta
was in full swing, so there were hundreds
of festive-looking hot air balloons floating
above the arena each morning! Check
out some of our practice session photos.

Gold-Level
vaulters from Golden Gate Vaulters
performed at the Fall Fest AVA
Region IV Regional Championship, July
2004, Ignacio, Colorado
Connor Andersen won 1st Overall in the Walk Division. Isobel Rippel won 1st
Overall in the Bronze Division. She is now moving up to Silver.
Even though we're not
attending Nationals this year, our team
is working hard towards competition in
the Fall.
Summer Camp
2004, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Our summer camp sessions were a rousing success.
We're offering more
sessions in Summer 2005 and will be able
to accomodate out-of-state vaulters. Check
out our Summer Camp 2005 information
and see what vaulters had to say about
the 2004 camp.

AVA Region
4 Educational Sessions, Albuquerque,
New Mexico, April
30 to May 2 2004
Several of our team members and coaches attended this in-depth vaulting clinic
at the New Mexico Horse Expo. We were coached by Rick Hawthorne of Valley View
Vaulters (California). We also attended sessions on the classical training
of the vaulting horse conducted by Colorado's Golden Gate Vaulters.

Matthias Lang
Vaulting Clinic— March 23-24,
We had a 2-day vaulting clinic
with French men's world vaulting champion,
Mathias Lang. We were joined by Albuquerque
vaulters as well as vaulters from Colorado.
Many of our vaulters performed some of
their compulsories at a canter for their
first time! Matthias also conducted a
clinic for more experienced vaulters.
We learned a lot about conditioning for
vaulting, and Matthias taught us some
games for both the barrel and horse to
improve our strength and agility. Not
only did we spend a lot of time on the
barrel and in the vaulting arena, but
had an opportunity to ask Matthias many
questions about vaulting over lunch.
